Assessing the Benefits

Beyond Energy Savings

At Metropolitan Energy Center (MEC), we believe it should be easy to reduce your utility bills by improving the way your home uses energy. That’s why we have knowledgeable customer service representatives, a certified energy analyst and financial incentives to make home energy improvements easy and affordable.

A home energy analysis can cost between $300 and $850 depending on the level of service you desire. However, a homeowner participating in the Home Performance with Energy Star (HPwES) program can get up to $400 in bill credits towards the cost of the analysis while a participant in EWKC (Energy Works Kansas City) can get up to $500 towards an energy analysis.

A Healthy, Safe Home

It all starts with your home energy assessment, the first step to a more comfortable and energy smart home. MEC qualified contractors perform a top-to-bottom comprehensive assessment of your home’s energy usage, which includes health and safety testing of your combustion appliances. These tests ensure your combustion appliances (such as furnaces, hot water heaters, and stoves) are functioning efficiently, and not leaking harmful carbon monoxide or natural gas into your home.

Adding Comfort by Stopping Drafts

For many homeowners, it can be difficult to maintain a constant temperature throughout the home. Whether it is improving the cold room next to the garage in the winter, or the humid second floor during the warm summer months, MEC can help.

Our certified home performance professionals approach your home as a system, tackling issues with air sealing, HVAC efficiency, moisture barriers, and insulation to ensure every room in your home is comfortable year round. Sealing an insulating your home is an excellent way to retain warm air in the winter prevent cool air from escaping in the summer.

Improving Outdated Equipment

Old, inefficient furnaces, air conditioners, and hot water heaters significantly add to a home's energy use. Once your home is properly insulated and all air drafts are sealed, the Energy Alliance can work with you to replace outdated mechanical equipment with new high-performance equipment. Don’t know when to start looking at replacing your home’s energy consuming equipment? Energy Star’s guide can help you decide when it’s time to replace your heating and cooling systems through the EnergyWorks KC program.

Reducing Air Pollution

During the worst days of summer, our air conditioners work hard to help keep our homes cool. However, the power plants powering our air conditioning systems add pollutants to our air at the time of year when smog is at its worst. By using high-efficiency cooling systems, adding insulation, and eliminating drafts, you can retain the comfortable, conditioned air in your home. This puts less of a strain on our power grid and helps us all breathe a bit easier during the hottest and most humid months of the year.
